FAIR HOUSING OF MARIN ANNOUNCES UPCOMING 2005 POSTER CONTEST AWARDS CEREMONY IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL FAIR HOUSING MONTH

(April 15, 2005) - Fair Housing of Marin invites everyone living and working in Marin to join us in celebration of Fair Housing Month by attending the annual Fair Housing Poster Contest Award Ceremony to be held before the Marin County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 10:45. At this time we will be honoring the student winners of the 2005 contest.

Mary Jane Burke, Marin County Superintendent of Schools, will host the ceremony. The theme for the 2005 contest was Together We Build Our Neighborhood.

The winners are:

Stephanie Abraham (5th grade, Good Shepherd Lutheran School)
Atiha Azam (5th grade, Bayside Elementary School)
Megan Carter (2nd grade, Novato Enrichment Center)
Katie Cohen (3rd grade, Loma Verde School)
Miriam Castaneda (4th grade, Laurel Dell After School Program)
Tony Gallo (7th grade, Women Helping All People)
Shane Hutchings (6th grade, Marin Academic Center)
Ashley Merceri (7th grade, Novato Youth Center)
Audrey Poole (Kindergarten, Neil Cummins School)
Brittany Righetti (5th grade, Good Shepherd Lutheran School)
Tamera Royston (1st grade, Novato Youth Center)
Jordan Stern (Kindergarten, Neil Cummins School)
Chris Sternes (8th grade, Timothy Murphy School)
Tamika Wilson (6th grade, Bayside Elementary School)

Students will be presented with prizes by Jack McLaughlin, President, Marin Association of Realtors; Larry Brackett, President and CEO, Frank Howard Allen; Melissa Prandi, President, Prandi Property Management; and Benny Steward, Executive Director, Marin City Development Corporation. In addition, students will be presented with a certificate of recognition signed by State Senator Carole Migden.

Special Guests will include GUMBY and Morrie Turner, national syndicated cartoonist and creator of WEE PALS.

Supervisor Hal Brown will read a Proclamation from Marin County and the Towns of Belvedere, Fairfax, Mill Valley, Novato, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito, and Tiburon honoring Fair Housing Month.

This year the Poster Contest was funded by Frank Howard Allen, California Land Title of Marin, Prandi Property Management, and Marin 1 Real Estate Investment Services. Funding for prizes was donated by the Marin Association of Realtors.

Fair Housing of Marin provides free counseling, investigative services, mediation and legal of administrative referrals to persons experiencing housing discrimination. People who feel they may be the victims of housing discrimination are encouraged to call Fair Housing of Marin at 415-457-5025.
