REGIONAL AUDITS
Housing discrimination is one of the great unseen epidemics in our community. With the help of our Fair Housing Testers, FHOM sheds light on the problem with systemic audits of the housing market that measure the extent of housing discrimination.
Through these audits we can learn how housing discrimination is affecting a specific class of the community, a specific type of housing "product," or a specific geographic area. With this information in hand, FHOM and other organizations can then inform the community, seek public action and solutions, or elicit support for additional fair housing training and monitoring.
Since 1985, FHOM has conducted 15 audits focusing on the following discriminatory areas, including several studies of Sonoma County:
- Race (4)
- Familial status (3)
- Latino national origin (4)
- Physical disability
- Accessibility for the disabled
- Sales practice
- Mortgage-lending practice
- Race-based residential care for the elderly
- Property insurance (race, national origin, neighborhood)
