INDUSTRY TRAINING

Do you work in the rental housing industry? Now you can earn credit toward your continuing education requirement by attending a FHOM training seminar about fair housing. We work closely with the Marin Association of Realtors, the Marin Income Property Association, and the Marin/Sonoma Chapter of the National Association of Residential Property Managers to tailor our trainings for active professionals.

Fair Housing Law and Practice
Reasonable Accommodation for Persons with Disabilities

Fair Housing Law and Practice

"Fair Housing Law and Practice" is a 3 1/2 hour seminar for the rental housing industry presented by Fair Housing of Marin and approved by the California Department of Real Estate for four hours of continuing education credit under the topic of fair housing.

"Fair Housing Law and Practice" addresses property owners' rights and responsibilities under federal and state fair housing laws, and helps housing providers establish policies that will ensure equal housing opportunity and prevent legal problems.

Topics include:

  • Federal and State fair housing laws
  • Tenant selection criteria
  • Occupancy standards and renting to families with children
  • Housing for persons with disabilities
  • Equal opportunity advertising and avoiding discriminatory advertising

Reasonable Accommodation for Persons with Disabilities

Few people in the industry are really clear what constitutes "reasonable accommodation." Yet the law really does ask professional to know where to draw the line. These workshops provide an overview of federal and state housing laws as they apply to persons with disabilities, followed by small group discussions that help find practical solutions to commonly asked questions from housing providers and tenants.

In the past, attendees have told us they've avoided costly lawsuits by putting into practice what they learned in this seminar.

For more information about this seminar or to schedule training, contact Jane Shandler, FHOM Training Director, at jane@fairhousingmarin.com, or call (415) 457-5025.
